BMW 1-Series M Coupé revealed!

BMW 1M seriesThis is One hot BMW! Following yesterday’s teaser video, BMW has released official images and details of the hottest 1-Series yet.

An aggressive makeover singles the M Coupé out from other 1-Series models in the range, including large cooling intakes in the front bumper, bulging wheelarches, wing-mirrors lifted from the M3 and four exhaust pipes mounted in pairs either side of a large rear diffuser.

The M Coupé boasts 335bhp from its twin-turbocharged in-line six-cylinder 3.0-litre engine. Torque is impressive too with a maximum of 500Nm available under full throttle. Engineers have opted to keep things simple and all M Coupé’s will be sold with a short-throw six-speed manual gearbox.

It all adds up to a blistering turn of pace which sees the 1-Series from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph. By comparison, Audi’s recently announced RS3 manages the 0-62mph sprint in 4.6 seconds and boasts the same electronically capped top speed.

So it may not be as quick as Audi’s hottest A3 but BMW are confident that the M Coupé will lap the Nurburgring quicker than a previous generation E46 M3. That’s partly down to its low1495kg kerbweight.

An M-Dynamic Mode also offers a more flexible engine set-up which can switch between relaxed and torque-oriented or tuned for maximum power at the touch of a button.

There’s been a host of EfficientDynamics tweaks too resulting in fuel economy of 29.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 224g/km.

Prices start at £39,990 and come with air-conditioning, cruise control, 19-inch alloys as well as leather and alcantara trim featuring M badges and orange stitching in the cabin.

BMW will only be selling 450 RHD 1-Series M Coupés in the UK, with the order books opening in January and the first customer deliveries in May.
