Last year Ford revealed a custom built one-off Mustang known as the AV8R. It was specially built as part of a fundraising campaign for the Experimental Aircraft Association's Youth Program and was unveiled at the 2008 Gathering of the Eagles. This year Ford has once again brought out a custom designed Mustang and is aiming to beat last year's benchmark of $500,000.
The Mustang AV-X10, or "Dearborn Doll" as some have come to know it, rolled off the assembly line much like the AV8R Mustang. It was your run-of-the-mill glass-roof Mustang in GT trim. From there, a dedicated team equipped with a plethora of Ford Racing goodies began overhauling the 4.6 liter V8 and managed to put 550 horsepower under the right foot of one lucky bidder.
Among the long list of modifications rests a twin-screw supercharger, performance intake and exhaust kit, lowering springs and a short throw shifter. The final result was an aggressive exhaust note coupled with extreme handling and enough torque to keep most anyone in the rearview mirror.
On the outside, a layer of Satin Silver paint covers the Dearborn Doll from the rear integrated spoiler to just behind the front fascia, where a bright yellow takes over and finishes out the topcoat. The paint scheme is made to simulate the look of the P-51 Mustang which became famous in World War II and was named as one of the key influences for the original Mustang.
As with last year's AV8R Mustang, the AV-X10 will be auctioned off at the end of the Gathering of the Eagles Event, acting as the finale of the evening. All proceeds will once again go straight to the Youth Program to help keep the tradition of aviation alive.
